Event Description: Prof Sir Geoff Palmer became the first black professor in Scotland in 1989 and then a Professor Emeritus after his retirement in 2005. In 2014 he was knighted with New Year Honours.
He has been involved with ELREC since 1978 and he is currently the Honorary President, supporting the organisation in administration and project-community work. He is also Board member of various organisations such as Hanover Housing, SACRO, MultiCultural Family Base, Penicuik CAB and Jamaican Society of Scotland, and he is Honorary President of Association of Jamaicans-Birmingham and Patron of Reach Society.
Professor Palmer has done a vast amount of work as human right activist. From 1969-1971 he wrote articles for the Times Educational Supplement in order to help the improvement of education for children from ethnic minority communities.
