Event: Dances of Universal Peace: Honouring our Roots!

Venue: Augustine United Church, 41 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, EH1 1EL.
Date: 24 June 2018.
Time: 5.30pm (for 6pm start) to 9.30pm.

Event Description: Events are taking place around the world to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Dances of Universal Peace (DUP).

For the first time, 5 local mentored and trained DUP teachers (& 2 extra musicians) are offering an event together. They will lead Dances, spiritual Walks, share some wonderful stories about Murshid SAM - and perhaps share something about their own personal, often life-changing, Dance journeys.

There will be time for talking and eating as well as Dancing – all who come are invited to bring a small offering of ready-prepared vegetarian food to share. A selection of teas/coffee will be provided. Plus Murshid SAM’s favourite treat!

No previous experience is necessary, all are welcome.

Wear comfortable loose clothing and soft shoes – or bare feet.

A wee bit of history:

Samuel Lewis (Murshid SAM) - pictured above, dancing in Central Park, New York in the 1960’s (which explains the clothing!). Murshid SAM created the Dances in the 1960’s as a form of ‘Peace Through the Arts’, in which moving and singing sacred phrases together creates a sense of peace and unity – a joyful oneness.

This event is supported by the Edinburgh International Centre for Spirituality and Peace (EICSP) www.eicsp.org, www.facebook.com/eicsp

Cost: Free (though donations always welcome).
