Event Description: Michael Northcott is Professor of Ethics at New College in the University of Edinburgh. He has written 12 books, mainly in the area of religious ethics and nature conservation. His most recent books include Place Ecology and the Sacred: The Moral Geography of Sustainable Communities (Bloomsbury 2015), Systematic Theology and Climate Change (edited with Peter Scott, Routledge 2015) A Political Theology of Climate Change (SPCK 2014) and A Moral Climate: The Ethics of Global Warming (Darton Longman and Todd 2007). He led a large publicly funded research project on faith-based environmental activism in the UK from 2013-17. His current PhD students are researching a range of projects including ontology in the Anthropocene, refugees and theological ethics, the moral self in Augustine and Confucius, Plants and Persons, and Scottish spiritual activism. He has guest professor at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Heidelberg from January to June 2018. He has been visiting professor at the Claremont School of Theology, Duke University, Flinders University Adelaide, and the University of Malaya. Originally from Kent, he has also lived and worked in Durham, Manchester and Kuala Lumpur. He is a keen gardener, cyclist, swimmer, walker, and kayaker.
