Taoist philosophy and Traditional Chinese Medicine teach that Qi is the life force energy that animates and sustains all forms of life, while  Gong means skill achieved through practice.  Qigong can be thought of as the art of mastering Qi. When we are born, our Qi tank is full. However, due to the natural process of ageing, stress, poor eating habits, overexertion, and even the generous extending of our energy to others (as often experienced by healers and those in the caring professions), we can find ourselves running on empty.   If we depend only on our own energy for our vitality, our life is limited. On the other hand, if we open up to the infinite sources of universal energy available all around us, our capacity for self healing opens and grows. Through movement, static postures, mudras, breath and sound, Qigong aligns us to the natural flow of energies within and beyond our body, and increases our connection to the more refined and higher frequencies that engender healing, and return us to the source of our innate wisdom. In so doing, we take the first step in what is known as Taoist Internal Alchemy, the path of self transformation.

We will practice together a number of short, gentle Qigong sets to open our energy gates and energy meridians, promote deep relaxation, replenish vital life-force energy and activate our body’s innate healing wisdom. The class is suitable for both beginners and experienced participants   since the results gained from any Qigong practice are unique to each individual, much as water effortlessly adapts to match and be at one with whichever distinct environment it finds itself within.

Muriel began her study of Taoist practices 31 years ago when living and working in China, and was introduced to additional meditation and healing practices in India, Egypt and the Philippines.  To add a western perspective to her understanding, she further explored the Science of Consciousness as taught by the Monro Institute, USA, and the International Academy for Conscientology , London.  However, Taoist practice and study remained her primary focus, and during this time she became a Universal Healing Tao Instructor in Qigong, Taiji and Meditation, and a practitioner of Chi Nei Tsang and Tuina therapies, which follow the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Over the last 9 years, Muriel has undertaken intensive study in Damo-Qigong and Taoist Internal Alchemy in the sacred mountain of Wudang, China, under the guidance of her teacher, Master Hu Xuezhi. She spends several months in China each year, and assists Master Hu on his annual Damo-Qigong and Wudang Internal Alchemy retreat programme, and is currently the only instructor he has authorised to teach the programme outside Asia.  A faculty member of Wudang Taoist Internal Alchemy and Damo-Qigong, Muriel is also a member of the Healing Tao Association of North America, and the World Universal healing Tao Faculty, Thailand. Muriel has taught in a number of countries over the last 12 years.
